The Battle at Badr

For this blog post, we are going to be looking at a piece called "The Battle at Badr." This piece is a sixteenth-century Turkish miniature painting. This painting capture how they were preparing for the battle. This battle established the new Muslim community. To the right, you can see Muhammad in a green dress with his face somewhat obscured. It is said that Muhammad told his people to treat the people they capture like members of their own family. In this image, you may notice that he is sending waves of horsemen into the battle. You may also notice that other followers are watching from behind. Also, two of his close associates are at the bottom right of the painting. Then, you have an angel that is hovering over everyone. The Quran reports that Allah had around 3,000 angels to support Muhammad during this time. This piece has beautiful detail. Each little thing holds a purpose and helps capture every important detail of this moment in history.
