Temptation

For this week's blog post we are going to be looking at a piece about Buddha. This week's piece is a Gandhara style. It represents a famous scene from Buddha's life. In this piece, you see Buddha and the demon Mara. You also see Mara’s seductive daughters and the Bodhi tree. In this piece, Mara and her seductive daughters are creating a temptation for Buddha while he is meditating under the Bodhi tree. The Bodhi tree is also known as the wisdom tree. It is a place of safety from all things evil. The Bodhi tree represents a person's journey to infinity. In this piece, we notice Buddha is in human form, and it has a Greco-Roman influence. His face is similar to the Greek god Apollo, and he is in a toga with curly hair meaning there is a mediterranean influence in this piece. This piece had beautiful detail and did a truly incredible job capturing the concept.
